Who makes custom trophies?

At Gaudio, we design and manufacture custom awards and plaques. No two days are the same, and each piece is unique. We have production operatives, account managers and designers all under one roof.

We’ve been making trophies for 20 years, for sporting events, charity awards, and industry-specific celebrations. We’ve helped recognise thousands of individuals, teams and businesses across all sectors with unique custom trophies.

Today we’re following a member of the team that’s been with the business for over 15 years – Matt! Matt has assembled some of our most iconic trophies. We’ll be getting insight into the different areas of expertise at Gaudio.

We start bright and early at 7:30am. Radio on, machines fired up; it’s time to make some trophies.

Operating the 3D Printer

Finishing 3D Printed Components

Matt starts his day as a custom trophy maker with the production team, working on some 3D printed prototypes.

The 3D printers have been running all night, hard at work constructing a range of different parts. Some are for trophies we’re making for customers, and some are test prints. We like to test the capabilities of our machines in new ways as often as we can, and there’s a lot to learn about how 3D printers behave with different filaments and settings.

3D printers have become a key part of our manufacturing process for many of our trophies. 3D printed trophies offer precise shapes and working with these machines involves:

  • Reviewing 3D Models & Prints – Checking digital prototypes for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Perfecting Surface Finishes – Sanding and smoothing prototype parts to create a flawless base for painting or plating.
  • Testing Assembly & Stability – Ensuring all components fit together perfectly before production starts.

When the print is finished, it’s cured and set. This stabilizes the print and lets us examine it more thoroughly. We check for any imperfections in the surface that might need to be sanded down. During the printing process, the model prints its own supports as time goes on. Matt can then carefully snap off these supports to reveal the main body to be used in the final trophy.

Refining Trophy Designs

Getting your design perfect

It’s mid-morning and Matt is back in the office. It’s a long trek from production to the design department. About six steps. Four if you’re long-legged.

Matt speaks with Jake, one of our designers. He’s been summoned to advise on the structural integrity of a potential design.

The designers are very friendly and tame as long as you keep them enriched throughout the day. In the summer we will freeze vernier callipers in blocks of ice for them. Their desks are an exciting place to investigate. From where I am (in the marketing department, one desk over), I can see the following intriguing things: a 3D-printed horses head that looks like it’s made of cheese, acrylic samples in every colour you can imagine, and a set of rogue LED lights that may or may not end up in a trophy. They also have a heated desk mat over there, which is making me think some big thoughts about reallocating part of the marketing budget.

Artwork and Proofing

A sidebar with Rachel

While we eavesdrop on Matt’s conversation with Jake, I invite you to step aside for a moment and metaphorically walk with me to Rachel’s desk. Rachel is our creative artworker with the design team. You might speak to Rachel when you get to the proofing stage of your order because it’s her job to make sure text and images will be laid out exactly how they need to be on a trophy before it’s manufactured. She has a trophy of her own; a glass star. She earned it after achieving the most sneezes in the office over the course of 2025.

Jake and Matt have looked over this new design quite thoroughly now. I can’t show it to you because it’s not confirmed yet, but let me describe it to you in a non-NDA-breaking sort of way: a 3D-printed something is going to sit on a solid aluminium column. The trophy needs to be moody and dark and quite striking, with a lot of contrast. It needs to be heavy and imposing and, most importantly, the 3D-printed component needs to be very secure. That’s really the crux of the issue here today.

Halfway through this discussion, a matter of urgency! Marketing (me) interrupts so I can get a photo of a trophy in someone’s hands to demonstrate the size. See the image below. This is just one example of how Matt needs to remain agile and on his toes at all time to tackle important trophy-related emergencies.

Back in design, Matt has advised a very good solution that requires only a small change that won’t impact the look of the trophy, but will add a bit more security to the components.

Having design and manufacture under one roof means finalising design elements is a collaborative process. Crucial parts of this process include:

  • Colour-Matching Prints & Acrylics – Ensuring that brand colours and event themes are accurately represented in each trophy.
  • Material Selection – Choosing the right metals, acrylics, and finishes to enhance durability and elegance.
  • Refining the Design – Working through iterations to perfect every detail, from intricate engravings to structural integrity.

A quick dip in the inbox and a bite for lunch, and Matt is back with the production team for the rest of the afternoon.

Personalisation and Assembly

An Afternoon in Production

Once designs are approved, manufacturing gets underway; turning designs into tangible, prestigious awards. Unlike mass-produced trophies, custom trophy makers focus on craftsmanship, hand-assembling each piece with precision and care. This afternoon Matt is working on the personalisation and assembly of a variety of trophies. Each trophy is individually personalised with unique winners’ names, category titles and sponsor logos.

Personalising trophies can look different depending on the design. For the trophies Matt’s working on today, it means printing individual winners’ details on each trophy before we assemble the final pieces. He sets up the machine, and lines up the components on the bed. They need to be carefully laid out to ensure the printer puts the ink in the right place. If they’re at all off, text or graphics will appear wonky and uneven.

These particular awards feature a top and a base, so next we need to fix them together. The base has been engraved and the top acrylic printed, and they’re ready to be combined to create a finished trophy. Once the pieces are fixed, they cannot be removed, which is why the personalisation needs to happen first. This is just a fraction of the work that happens in production, which also includes:

  • Cutting and Shaping Materials – Whether working with metal, wood, or acrylic, each material is crafted to its exact specifications.
  • Hand-Assembling Each Trophy – Every piece is carefully put together by expert craftsmen to ensure durability and aesthetic perfection.
  • Engraving & Personalisation – Adding names, event titles, and logos to make each award truly one-of-a-kind.

By the end of the day, rows of stunning trophies are polished, packed, and ready to be shipped, just in time for their big moment at an event.

Logistics

A New Way to Manage Stock

For the final stretch of this day, Matt spends some time testing a new cloud-based solution for a customer that requires custom plaques to be delivered to different locations several times a month. The integration should allow for each branch of this customers’ business to add their own personalisation details on a centralised online hub.

Stock and delivery isn’t necessarily the glamorous side of organising an award ceremony, or even ordering a trophy, but getting it right can make a huge difference on the day and throughout the year. At Gaudio, we’ve worked with teams of all sizes to coordinate bespoke delivery options:

  • Developing Custom Stock Systems – Managing inventory for companies that require ongoing trophy orders.
  • Coordinating Deliveries for Large Events – Ensuring awards arrive on time, anywhere in the world.
  • Handling Custom Orders & Rush Requests – Adapting to last-minute changes and urgent requirements.

FAQs - Custom Trophy Makers

How do I place an order for a custom trophy?

To place an order for a custom trophy, contact the Gaudio team. Once we have a brief, a designer will create a custom trophy design and quote. We can amend designs, and when you’re 100% happy, just let us know and we’ll confirm the order! Production begins immediately once an order is confirmed.

How do I choose the best custom trophy maker?

The best way to determine if a custom trophy maker is the best option for you is to get a full design and quote. At Gaudio, this is free of charge and no obligation. We’ll ask you your requirements for an award, and won’t provide any design suggestions that aren’t suited to your brief, brand or budget.

What information do I need to provide to a custom trophy maker?

When you enquire about custom trophies with Gaudio, an Account Manager will guide you through the process. We’ll ask you for information including your event date, the quantity required, and your budget. We’ll also request any brand guidelines or logos you’d like incorporated into the design.

How long does it take to make a custom trophy?

The design of a custom trophy will determine how long it takes to make. On average, we ask for around 4-6 weeks from design to delivery. For some more complex designs we may require longer, however you’ll always be made aware of the lead time prior to placing an order.

What materials will a custom trophy maker use?

Gaudio use lots of different material to make custom trophies. Aluminium, acrylic, slate and resin are our most commonly used materials. We choose our materials carefully for their hard-wearing properties and ability to be customised. Aluminium is infinitely recyclable, and acrylic is a great blank canvas for custom print. Resin awards are often 3D-printed and capture fine detail without the cost of casting or a mould.

Engraving etches your design into the surface of the trophy.

Printed

Print is colour-matched. Based on variations in computer and screen settings, and manufacturing tolerances, colours may appear differently to what you see on screen.

Personalise Online

Select your layout using the dropdown menu, then enter your details. The live proof shows you an approximate visual of how your trophy will look when it’s engraved. Once you’ve added the details you want and purchased your trophy, we’ll begin manufacture right away.

Please note: The live render is an estimate of how your trophy will look, and the final result may vary in size, colour and placement.

Gaudio Proofing Service

With the Gaudio Proofing Service, simply add your chosen trophy to your cart and checkout as normal. A member of the team will be in touch to collect the required details, and we’ll send you proofs to approve before manufacture. Delivery time excludes proofing.
