One Man and His Dog
One Man and His Dog is one of those TV shows that formed a part of the childhood of several of us here in the Gaudio office. So, we were delighted to receive the enquiry from BBC Countryfile to produce the trophies for this event for the second year running.
One Man and His Dog is a BBC television series that began in 1976 featuring sheepdog trials. Since 2013 it has been aired as a special annual edition of Countryfile. Presented by Matt Baker and Charlotte Smith, this year the event took place on Hampstead Heath in the heart of London. The best shepherds and their sheepdogs from England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales compete in a series of sheep herding trials to win the coveted trophy. Each team has two competitors, one for the ‘singles’ where one dog is in action, and one for the notoriously difficult ‘brace’ where two dogs are working together. This year’s champions were Wales.
For this year’s trophy, the BBC were looking for a new design, something modern and contemporary, and based around their logo. The final comprises a brushed aluminium base with green acrylic detail and a clear and green acrylic top in the form of the event logo. The design uses the vibrancy of the coloured acrylic to create an eye-catching design that fits the branding effectively. It also makes a feature of the sheepdog illustration in the centre by placing it on clear acrylic.
I can remember watching One Man and His Dog every year as a child with my family and it was great to re-discover it this year and to see the trophies we created being given out. It is one of those things that is so quintessentially British that it proved a little difficult to explain to some of those in the office that did not grow up in the UK but we are all hooked now!
