The Publican Awards 2018

The Publican Awards arrived in style last night, celebrating the best in the business. The event saw live entertainment, a three-course meal and, naturally, drinks courtesy of event sponsors.

We’ve worked with the Publican Awards for several years, and this year we were once again lucky enough to produce their fantastic trophies. An award mounted on a base offers an exciting flexibility for yearly awards, whilst overall shape and style remains the same. In this case, the client was interested in a lighter wooden base, as opposed to the dark mahogany base of previous years.

Announced in 1991, and now in their 27th year, the awards remain devoted to the pub and bar sector. The awards are hosted by Morning Advertiser, one of the UK’s longest-running pub trade publications. Guests were entertained by celebrity host Rob Brydon, as finalists eagerly awaited the results.

Deliberations were made by an extensive panel of judges, consisting of top industry experts including company directors, writers, broadcasters, CEO’s, and innovation specialists. These comprehensive awards are the top authority for excellence in the business.

Nineteen coveted titles were presented to well-deserving recipients; notably, North Bar Brewing Co took home the award for Best Brewing Pub Company, and John Sands was awarded Best Industry Contribution.

Raising the Bar for Bespoke Awards

The final design is a stunning turned metal trophy, shaped to resemble a tap handle. Finished in polished aluminium, this 3D award is perfect for display. The shape lends itself to the logo and branding, and the Publican Awards logo is printed onto white acrylic, in place of a tap handle badge. These awards are a great example of context appropriate design used to make the award fun and tactile.

The base is crafted from FSC certified light oak wood, offering a lighter colour palette for the awards, whilst retaining their professional look and feel. The base is finished with an engraving plate. Engraved details provide an elegant solution for categories and winners’ details, and our in-house UV printing technology has printed colour-accurate sponsor logos onto each plate.

Acrylic detail and engraving plates mean that these awards can be consistent in their fundamental shape and style, while still unique year on year. Consistency is a compelling aesthetic choice when choosing and designing awards, not only to reinforce branding, but to support the legacy of the event.
