Because long after the applause fades, it’s the engraving that stays; transforming beautifully designed awards into something meaningful, personal, and impossible to forget. Check out our ultimate trophy engraving ideas below to help you write the perfect award messaging.

Why Choose Engraved Trophies?

In a world of instant messages and digital recognition, engraved trophies offer something personal and permanent. They don’t just celebrate achievement in a single moment; they help to preserve it for years to come.

Engraving helps to add weight and meaning to your awards, turning an object into a story that can be displayed and revisited time and time again. Beyond that, engraved trophies elevate the entire experience of your event by showing attention to detail and reinforcing the importance of the occasion.

At Gaudio Awards, engraving is an integral part of the custom trophy design process. Our expert in-house designers consider every word, every line, and every layout to ensure your award looks as good as the achievement it represents. Here’s how to get started with trophy engraving…

The Four Core Elements of Trophy Engraving

Every great trophy engraving is built on the following four elements:

  • The award name
  • The category name
  • The winner’s name
  • The date

Think of these as your hierarchy. The award name should lead, the winner’s name should stand out, and the supporting details should sit neatly around them. If you structure your engraving well, it will feel balanced, easy to read, and instantly understood.

There’s no need to overcomplicate these elements. In fact, simplicity is what gives many corporate and industry awards their authority and elegance. Your recipient doesn’t need a whole paragraph to remember their achievement. Instead, a well-crafted custom trophy, paired with clean and considered engraving, speaks volumes without needing to say too much.

Common Engraving Mistakes to Avoid

Even the best ideas can fall flat if you don’t execute them properly. Here are a few pitfalls to watch out for:

Overcrowding with Text

More isn’t always better. Too much text can make your engraving difficult to read and diminish the overall aesthetic of the trophy. An expert designer (like our in-house team at Gaudio Awards) will help you strike the right balance.

Spelling Mistakes

It sounds obvious, but spelling mistakes can easily fall through the cracks. Always double-check the spelling of names, titles, and dates on your award. When you work with Gaudio Awards, you’ll have the chance to review everything before production.

Inconsistent Formatting

Different font sizes, uneven spacing, or misaligned text can make your engraving look unprofessional. We recommend checking every detail during the proofing process to ensure that everything is clean and consistent.

FAQs

Is there a character limit on trophy engraving?

For bespoke trophies, the only real limit to your engraving is the size of the award itself – and we’ll advise you on what works best. Character limits can apply for ready-made awards with our online proofing option; but if you choose our traditional proofing service, there is usually more flexibility on word count.

Can I include logos with engraving?

Yes, you can include logos with engraving. If your logo is available in a vector format, we can usually engrave it alongside your text for a more branded and cohesive finish.

What if I make a mistake after ordering?

If you opt for a bespoke trophy or the ready-made proofing service, then you’ll receive a proof to approve before production begins. At this point, you can make any changes and ensure your trophies are just right. If you require any changes after approval, we’ll always do our best to help; but bear in mind that production starts immediately after confirmation.

Blank

When you order a blank trophy, it will arrive without any personalised details. The trophy is blank for you to add your own personalisation, or use as a decorative piece.

Engraved

Engraving etches your design into the surface of the trophy.

Printed

Print is colour-matched. Based on variations in computer and screen settings, and manufacturing tolerances, colours may appear differently to what you see on screen.

Personalise Online

Select your layout using the dropdown menu, then enter your details. The live proof shows you an approximate visual of how your trophy will look when it’s engraved. Once you’ve added the details you want and purchased your trophy, we’ll begin manufacture right away.

Please note: The live render is an estimate of how your trophy will look, and the final result may vary in size, colour and placement.

Gaudio Proofing Service

With the Gaudio Proofing Service, simply add your chosen trophy to your cart and checkout as normal. A member of the team will be in touch to collect the required details, and we’ll send you proofs to approve before manufacture. Delivery time excludes proofing.
