The Brief

When Investors in People first approached Gaudio Awards back in 2015, the brief was clear: to create beautiful branded trophies that would accurately represent their values and serve as a tangible token of success for the winners. The distinctive laurel logo needed to remain central to the design, but each year the trophies must be adapted to reflect any updates in the IIP brand, ensuring a fresh and modern feel for each awards ceremony.

As well as looking striking, these custom trophies and awards also serve a practical purpose. They need to be eye-catching in photographs, whilst also being sturdy enough for display in an organisation’s trophy cabinet. Each piece also had to be personalised for the recipient, making them a one-of-a-kind keepsake.

Investors in People Branded Trophies 2023

Design

The Investors in People branded trophies have undergone a remarkable transformation over the years, with each trophy design utilising the branding in fresh, exciting ways. Here’s how the designs have evolved:

  • 2015: The first 2015 design featured a sleek teardrop shape crafted from solid aluminum with a mirror-polished finish. Metallic blue acrylic accents added a modern touch, while intricate cut-throughs of the iconic IIP laurel were used to emphasise the stunning silver detailing on each award. 
  • 2018: 2018’s IIP trophy once again saw the laurel logo take centre stage. The design featured bold blue acrylic with a cut-out profile, adding a pop of brand-appropriate colour to the front of the award. The trophy itself was made from solid aluminium with a shiny polished finish, with individual winners’ names engraved on the base.

  • 2020: Held in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, these iconic branded trophies were treated to a significant redesign in 2020. The previous blue acrylic was replaced with pink, featuring bold shapes and colourful detailing on the front of the awards. The engraved logo and personalised details were printed in white to contrast against the pink, with the brushed matte finish adding a sleek, contemporary feel.
  • 2023: This IIP trophy design embraced opulence and elegance, featuring a solid aluminium base coated in gold glitter paint. The iconic laurel logo printed in white looks professional and sophisticated, with space for the winner’s details further down the design. The trophy sits on a mirror polish aluminium base with a gold painted cap to match the top of the trophy, for a seamless look between the two components.
  • 2024: The latest iteration to the IIP trophy design featured a freestanding aluminium column trophy with a brushed gold anodised finish. A cut-through in the shape of the laurel wreath logo reveals mirrored gold acrylic, personalised with winners’ details and category titles engraved directly onto the gold surface.
Investors in People Branded Trophies 2020

Manufacture

The Investors in People branded award trophies are manufactured and finished in-house at our state-of-the-art production centre. Each trophy is made from the same quality solid aluminium base – depending on the design, the aluminium is either polished to a mirror-like shine, or brushed for a sophisticated matte finish. The acrylic components are then cut, shaped, and coloured to complement the trophy branding and overall theme for that year’s awards.

All the IIP trophies are personalised with the brand logo and winner’s details. We utilise a combination of engraving and 3D printing to include all those unique details, before carefully assembling each piece by hand. Keeping everything in-house ensures for seamless quality control, allowing us to present Investors in People with a flawless final product.

Whether presented in-person at a glittering annual awards ceremony or delivered virtually (like they were during COVID-19), these trophies never fail to make an impact. By combining high quality materials, bespoke trophy design, and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, Gaudio Awards has helped Investors in People create showstopping awards that are as meaningful as the achievements they honour.

The Brief

It’s been a privilege to work with Coca-Cola in the past, creating awards for a variety of briefs and requirements.

Freestanding acrylic trophies, patinated copper sculptures, and solid aluminium awards with a polished finish. For these latest awards, Coca-Cola provided a concept and some clear requirements:

  • Consideration of the environmental impact
  • Incorporation of the Coca-Cola brand in a creative way
  • Winners’ names on each trophy

Every design at Gaudio is brought to life as a render before manufacture. A render is a computer-generated image, created by our design tea using cutting-edge software to give you an idea of what the award will look like. The Coca-Cola awards went through many design iterations, exploring other wooden trophy options. This included turned 3D awards, and different interpretations of the encapsulated design.

Designing Sustainable Awards

Gaudio has in-house design and manufacturing capabilities, and input from both teams can be infinitely valuable.

Bespoke awards are visually stunning, but also hard-wearing and ready for even the most celebratory of award ceremonies. The material choices were particularly important for these awards, and these considerations took precedent at the design stage.

The final award demonstrates how dedicated design allows for unique bespoke elements to shine, and these custom wooden awards feature a recycled acrylic window showcasing real Coca-Cola bottlecaps.

Wooden trophies are growing increasingly popular, and Gaudio endeavour to utilise wooden components that are responsibly sourced. This includes working with suppliers that prioritise the protection of biological diversity, minimising waste, and the conservation of resources.

The Coca-Cola award also feature one of our most versatile materials – acrylic. The opportunity to use recycled acrylic in these awards meant there was no need to compromise on design to meet sustainability goals. This bespoke trophy features a recycled acrylic window, and a printed acrylic backing for an additional pop of bright red colour.

Celebrating Success with Unique Personalisation

Every award can do more than facilitate just one evening of celebration.

A trophy encourages recipients to take ownership of their achievements and be proud to display them.

Custom wooden awards highlight beautiful natural variations in the wood grain and make a perfect canvas for engraved details. Each Coca-Cola award is engraved with individual winners’ names and category titles, ready for display to be admired by colleagues, clients, and customers.

The Final Product

Many things make up the complex picture of a brand.

The logo is often what people think of when they hear ‘brand’, but there are lots of elements at work that function as symbols of a company and its products. The logo is one, but it might include a specific colour, a sound, a symbol or, in the case of Coca-Cola, an unmistakable bit of packaging.

For these environmentally conscious trophies, the historic silhouette of that classic glass bottle is transformed into a custom wooden award. Each one is engraved and made even more personal with a display of bottlecaps, adding to the organic feel and tactile nature of these iconic awards.

The design team at Gaudio are no strangers to working with an array of global brands. From Coca Cola to BBC Radio 1, the team are experts in crafting unique bespoke awards, celebrating the best creative elements of any brand.

The F1 Innovation Prize is no exception, and the brief was clear. This needed to be a stand-out trophy, focusing on the viewer experience. It was crucial that this award was less about the nuts and bolts, instead taking inspiration from the event graphics, with a sleek, digital feel. It’s also incredibly valuable for clients to let us know what they don’t want. In this case, we needed to avoid large blocks of colour, which helps the design team narrow down the materials, print and overall finish of the award.

Manufacture

Once the design is finalised, production can begin.

Acrylic is one of our most versatile resources, and it made all the difference in the manufacturing of this award. Laser-cut clear acrylic creates the initial profile. All of our acrylics can be UV-printed in house, for unlimited customisation. From winners’ details to branded imagery, ink is colour matched, and then dries instantly for a smooth, crisp print.

Gaudio’s manufacturing capabilities don’t stop there – we’re also home to our own polishing facilities to ensure every award has a picture-perfect finish. On the F1 Innovation Prize, a sparkling mirror polish is paired with a matte brush finish, offering an eye-catching and tactile depth on cut aluminium around the edges of the acrylic.

The Award

It’s the base where this award really shines – literally

 The standard award base services multiple functions but, fundamentally, it holds the award upright. It provides a sturdy place for the award to be held and is often, structurally speaking, vital. A base is typically where we place winners’ details, and with additions of acrylic or anodised metal, a standard award base can reflect a recipient’s placement, or the event branding.

When it came to the F1 Innovation Base, we had the potential to do more. By layering acrylic with polished aluminium, the base becomes a visual feature. More than just a functional piece, the base is also home to the 6 signatures, each laser engraved.

The finishing touch isn’t visible at first, but with a flick of a switch, hidden LED lights provide a subtle glow. With an interactive twist, this award is more than just a keepsake. Through acrylic windows the top of the base is illuminated, for the ultimate award presentation experience.

A compelling award, the F1 Innovation Prize is the epitome of bespoke award manufacture. With clean lines and an LED base, this ultra-modern award is one of a kind, embodying the importance of the viewer experience.

The MasterChef Award and Brief

MasterChef has been on our screens for over 30 years, with contestants cooking up a storm in the hopes of taking home the title.

The show Is a staple in households across the world, and for the UK competition, Gaudio was asked to create a custom trophy that would stand the test of time. The MasterChef award is a trophy that’s instantly recognisable, with a premium finish and a timeless style.

This excellent brief stirred up some fresh ideas for our in-house designers. The MasterChef brand is one that’s universally recognised, and the trophy has seen many iterations over the years. Since 1990, MasterChef has put contestants through their paces to find the best amateur cook in the UK. The series has evolved to test not only the skills of amateur contenders, but seasoned professionals, and even returning champions.

The award needed to encapsulate a lifetime of hard work, creativity, and determination, and represent the momentous achievement of the winning recipient. Our team were tasked with creating an award with a classic and prestigious feel, while still embracing the fresh and contemporary aspects of the MasterChef show.

Designs

Adding flavour to a design comes in many forms.

Combining the prestige of a classic silver trophy with the uncomplicated and clean lines of a contemporary bespoke award, the MasterChef design balances the shows legacy with it’s mix of innovation for the ultimate custom trophy.

One very distinct aspect of the MasterChef design is that [quintessential] logo. The ‘M’ shape unites all aspects of the show, from the opening credits to every apron, so it was only right to place it front and centre of this bespoke design. Its dynamic shape sits on a two-tiered base, adding distinguished height and shape, with space for engraving.

Manufacture

The MasterChef award begins life as a solid piece of aluminium, with no finishing, shape, or definition.

Gaudio manufacture in-house, which means we cut and process material, as well as adding the all-important bits of personalisation that makes every award unique.

The award is initially handled by our engineer, who cuts the metal to give it it’s signature shape. After that, the award is polished, which is provides its eye-catching shine and a long-lasting, high-quality finish. The top of the MasterChef award slots into the tiered base with a secure fit. The award is carefully cleaned and given a final hand polish, before being securely packed and shipped in time for filming

The final award has seen many variations;

The MasterChef award is the culmination of not only 8 weeks of intense competition, but a lifetime of simmering, sauteing, prepping and perfecting.

The MasterChef trophy is a fantastic example of how bespoke manufacture can create something with a simple, elegant finish, that borrows inspiration from classic trophies, while still putting the contemporary shape front and centre.

Brief & Design

Gaudio’s in-house production facilities mean that an award is bespoke from top to bottom, including the size and shape.

With no need to start with standard components, the unique profile of these awards is created by milling solid metal. Profiling defines that iconic interlocking arrow shape, and the cut out ‘1’ in the centre of the award.

The Official Charts Award are manufactured in both a gold and silver finish. Each have a textured brushed surface, which can be printed or engraved. The subsurface treatment that provides the rich gold colour alongside the in-house polishing means that each award is hard-wearing and less likely to tarnish over time unlike traditional plating methods. They’re a fantastic example of how a design can evolve with a new brief. Following the creation of their metal and acrylic Official Charts Awards, the Official Charts Company approached us to develop a new product that enabled music lovers to celebrate with their favourite artists.

The Official Number One Fan Award was designed in collaboration with the Official Charts Company as a collector’s item for fans with fond memories of their artists greatest hits. The silver award gets its signature profiled look from the charts’ logo, and the final design offers space for engraving of the chart-topping single and artists name, as well as a personal message. Whether it’s to immortalise a precious memory, or gift to a loved one, the Number 1 Fan Awards bring together the prestige of a Number 1 Celebration and the fans that helped make it happen.

Personalised Plaque Design

Investors in People have worked with Gaudio since 2010, and in that time their plaques have seen multiple designs to match the ever-evolving Investors in People brand, without losing sight of their core consistency.

Gaudio’s in-house design team had the opportunity to work closely with the team at Investors in People on the rebrand of their custom wall plaques.

The design process begins with a simple brief, and some useful design elements. The Investors in People logo is a combination of classic and contemporary and, alongside the colour palette used across Investors in People marketing and media, offered a really flexible starting point for our team to get creative. The new design utilised different colours and finishes across all levels of achievement, and each plaque is complete with personalised engraving.

The Investors in People Accreditation plaques are individually personalised prior to shipping. The plaque is engraved with individual details from every accredited business, directly into the top layer of aluminiumUnlike stickers or vinyl, engraving will not peel away, and remains clearly visible against the aluminium surface.
